WEBI Report Scheduling
I am planning to use an excel present in my local system in the SAP Dashboard which I have been developing. The dashboard needs to be refreshed on a weekly basis. I have built a WEBI report on top of excel and used that report as QAAWS connection in dashboard. But when I try to schedule the report on BI launchpad and running it again, it is throwing an error saying that the excel file from which the webi report is taking the data cannot be located. I am able to refresh the report manually through WEBI Rich client. I want to have a scheduled process in place in BI launchpad so that it refreshes automatically based on the excel file (which will be updated weekly).
My questions are -
1) Is it possible to schedule an report based on the excel file on your local machine ?
2) Is there a way to automate the refresh of WEBI Reports in WEBI Rich client?
BO Availability check
Hi,
I am looking for information on BO server availability, just like the availability log on SAP systems. Please advice if there is way to check the up-time and availability hick-ups for a BO server via CMC or any other way?

User access to CMC
Hi,
My Crystal Server is 2011 installed on a 2008 R2 server.
I have restricted access to the CMC for non Administrator users. I have a group of users that have access to the CMC with access to some of the options such as;
Folders
Users and Groups
Query Results
etc
I would like to allow them access to Calendars as well but I don't know how to do this.
Any ideas?

Nothing happens when scheduling in Promotion Management
Problems login into CMC on BI 4.1 SP3 patch 1?
Have anybody experience a problem login into CMC after applying patch 01 to a BI 4.1 SP3 Server?
I setup a server for BI 4.1 SP3; migrated data from XIR2 to it and was working OK. few little glitches here and there so I decided to apply patch 01 and now I can't even log into CMC with Admin acct. I keep getting "..
"Account information not recognized: Could not reach CMS 'Servername:6400'. The CMS on machine 'Servername' was stopped due to a critical error. (FWM 20031)".
I tried to un-install by obviously can't because I need admin access...
Any suggestions would be appreciated...

Version Management issue in BI4.1 SP3
Hello Experts,
I am unable to access Promotion Management after we upgraded to 4.1 SP3. I am getting the following error when click on Version Management:
"Sorry, Promotion management application is unable to process your request.
The error from the server is: com.businessobjects.vms.VMSException: com.businessobjects.vms.VMSException: com.businessobjects.vms.VMSException: java.io.IOException: CreateProcess error=2, The system cannot find the file specified"
I can access Promotion Management without issues. Appreciate any comments?

Server Groups - "Give Preference" vs "Only Use"
Hi All,
I'm working on a project where we want to have batches of reports being scheduled to specific server groups. Currently when these batches are run, the reports use the "first available server" option in CMC. This is problematic as the reports are just being scheduled to whatever server has the least load at the time, so on demand reports just have to wait until the long batches are over before they can be scheduled.
In CMC, there are two options for setting up server groups:
"Give preference to servers belonging to the selected group"
"Only use servers belonging to the selected group"
Our fix was to schedule these batches to server groups so that some of the servers would be available for on demand reporting. Since our goal is to have distinct server groups to help with load balance, we went with the "Only use" option. The functionality of this is pretty clear: Even if the needed servers (AJS) are disabled, stopped, or busy, the reports will still be scheduled to this server group. However, the functionality regarding the "Give preference" option is unclear.
My question is: Under what conditions would BusinessObjects switch to using a server not included in the server group if the "Give preference" option were used?
As far as documentation goes, the best answer I found was that the server would switch when the needed servers are "not available". What exactly does this mean?
When the server is disabled? (Assuming yes, this would be good for us)
When the server is stopped? (Assuming yes, this would be good for us)
When the server is busy? (No idea..., if yes, this would be bad)
If the server switches when the specified server is busy, then we just run into the same issue we had before, so we wouldn't want to do that. Does anyone have any insight into how this works so we can figure out which option to go with?

Webi Intelligenct processing servers doesn't start. BO 4.1
BO 4.1 SP1 Patch 8. Cluster. OS: Linux RHEL 6.x
On one of our environments WIPS (webi processing services) suddendly stopped working. We did no change.
These are the errors I see every time I try to restart/start (just an excerpt)

I can create a new WIPS on any other server on the cluster but any new WIPS i create on this node meets the same fate. It crashes right after I start it.

Crystal Enterprise 8.0 APS Service will not start
We are testing a domain move on our crystal enterprise 8.0 server after changing the domain name and server name we can't start the APS service and we don't have the media to re install the server as it's soooo old and someone had had a clear out
it's installed on a Windows 2003 r2 server with service pack 2 it was working fine till we change the domain and server name I have been through the registry and changed the server and domain names and renamed the files and folders all the other services start but state (Failed to register with the APS OUR_NEW_SERVER_NAME. Please make sure the APS is up and running. Attempting an automatic retry...)
When I try to start the Crystal APS I get the information records in the app log stating connecting to access db ect and I can see the access lock file created so the service is opening that db
The error we get in the sever app log are below
1st Failed to register object "com.seagatesoftware.img.osca.aps."OUR_NEW_SERVER_NAME":aps" to the name server. Reason: Transport user error: invalid object name..
2nd Failed to register the APS to the name server.
3rd The root server reported an error Initialization Failure.
The error in the C:\Program Files\Seagate Software\logging is this

BI 4.1 How to easily find which APS is running a particular service?
I am trying to track down an error with BI4.1 version management (note 2008275)
and the correction says
"Ensure that only 1 APS server is defined with a "Lifecycle management service" and running across the entire cluster."
This led me this question, how can you determine which APS is running a particular service without having to hunt and peck through every APS?
I ran the 4.1 wizard and I have 20 APS.
Just curious if there is a better way for future reference.

Struggle for Disk Space on Business Objects Server
Hi,
I have been asked to look after the Business Objects servers’ disk space. As
the logs files keep on increasing and there is a struggle to control the need
to hold these files. I have requested the server maintenance person to increase
the disk space on the drives but they have been asking me to clean up the log
files. Hence I have two important questions:
(Knowing that this can be unique to the organisation landscape along with
the number of reports and the type of activity which happens on Server combining
with the number of users – but wanted to ask as a rule of thumb what should we
have as a minimum).
1. What is the disk space that each drive should have on the server?
2. How long should we keep the log files till? (As there is a constant
increase in the folder size) Any SAP notes/recommendations would be very
helpful to support your answers.

upgrading to BI 4 .unv to .unx migration
I am just starting a project to upgrade from XI 3.1 (SP6) to BI 4.1 (SP3 probably).
Switching to UNX universes is something we would like to do. We can create them easily enough in the Information Design Tool (IDT). I say easy but there are a few hundred but it's manageable. The concern I have is how to convert thousands of Webi reports (we mainly only use Webi) to use the newly created UNX universes.
Currently I think I have 3 options:
- To open every report and manually change each query in the report to use the new unx universe.
- Get someone to write some code to do point 1 using the SDK. I know I may not get all of the variables correctly matched but it could get 95% of the reports correct in a timely manner.
- Find a utility that someone has already written or is commercially available that would do this.
Can anyone help or advise on this please?

Error ORA-00911 in CMS
Hi, CMS service is stopped and does not start, when I go to the properties in the configuration tab I get the message "Failed to retrieve cluster name from the database. Reason: Database Access error. Reason [Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-00911:invalid character
The database is on a different server CMS

How do I create and new enterprise alias?
I am trying to create an enterprise alias as a proof of concept to address the issue we had about 8 months ago which I described in the following thread.

We are not won BI 4.1 SP01 Patch 6.
I create new users in our system by having them added to an active directory group and then I do an update of Windows AD in the Authentication section of the CMC.
Can someone explain this section to me?
I have read the admin guide corresponding to this, but I am still not sure what to do. I have 250 users that do not have enterprise aliases. So I would like to know how to create an enterprise alias for existing users. When I try to create a new alias I get this error message. I don't see a contradiction. This looks like a bug to me.
I would also like to know how to have them automatically created going forward for new users if possible.

SAP BI 4.1 and External Access
Hello All,
We have installed SAP BI 4.1 SP2 Patch 4 on a production server, we want this server to be reach from external devices ( not directly connected to our network).
For Firefox (or Chrone) using a laptop computer it's working correctly, but when I want to use the LaunchPad on Ipad device (safari) or Android device (firefox) , we have the following error:

SAP SSO REPLACE
Hi,
We have BO DEV environment was using a particular BW system(BWD) and setup the SAP SSO using using the same BWD system.
Now as per user requests, this BW system BWD changed to UWD. SAP SSO setup for UWD was done and is working.
When user trying to connection to SAP system, they are able to view both the connections BWD and UWD under BO CMC-SAP Authentication. Due to that there were few issues. And as per request the previous SSO setup connection BWD was removed permanently from the BO system.
Now one user asking for his favourites folder when he was using the previous SSO setup BWD, under BWD~<user id>. Now these BWD~<user id> folders are not appearing in BO CMC, only UWD~<user id> folders are appearing.
Is this behaviour (not appearing BWD~<user id> folders in CMC) because of SSO setup change from BWD~UWD or removal of BWD connection from SAP authentication in BO CMC. Please confirm and also any option/work around to recover the previous BWD~<userid> folders.
Please help and let me know any details required.

APS.Core - ClearCase: The service did not start
Dear Experts,
I installed BO 4.1 sp2 under windows 2007 server(without Hyper-V) after installation I check CMC---Servers --- all servers health status is green except :
*.APS.Core -> Status: Running with Errors.
When checked the problem, it seams that : ClearCase did not start
Did not find why?
Also when try to start the Monitoring, I get this :

Working with version management and promotion management best practices BO 4.1

I wondered if anybody knows if there is a document or something about best practices to work with the version management and promotion management in BO 4.1?
Our Environment includes two servers. The first one is our development and test server. The second server is our prod system.
Now on the dev server we have basically two folders called dev and test. We control access to them with a right system based on the folder structure.
My question now is how you would work in this scenario (third server is not an option). Main target is to have as few reports as possible. Therefore we try to work with the version management system and only have one version of each report in the dev folder of the cms. But this is where problems start. Sometimes the newest version is not the version we want to publish to the test folder or even prod server.
How would you publish the report to the other folder? Make a copy of the concerned report (transport to the same system via promotion management is not possible). Also how would you use the version management in regards to the folder structure? Only use version management in dev folder and export reports to test folder (out of vms control) or also use vms in test folder and how would that work?
Further more I’d be interested in learning best practices with promotion management. I found out that the promotion of a report that doesn’t exist in prod doesn’t make any problems. But as soon as an older version already exists there is only partial success and the prod folder gets renamed to “test”.
Any suggestions on how to handle these problems?
