Relocating Database for BizObj XI3.0

$

I was asked to assist in a project where our DBAs are moving our Business Objects database to a new server, but the person who administers Business Objects isn't familiar with the backend to point Business Objects to the new database location. I myself (a windows server admin) am not familiar with business objects at all, but I see a utility called a Central Configuration Manager which appears to have two databases configured, a CMS System database and an Auditing database.  Are these the only two databases that make up Business Objects? And is it as simple as just pointing these two fields under the CCM to the new location once the DBAs move the databases? Or is there more involved?

If anyone can point me to a document that might explain this if its more involved, I'd greatly appreciate it. I've been doing all sorts of searching and even came across a migration guide but it doesn't appear to apply to what we're running.

Crashing WEBI 4.1SP2FP3

Hi all. Very strange issue that 100 percent correlates BI updating. Update 2008R2SP1 64bit environment from BI 4.1SP1FP2 to 4.1SP2FP3. Immediately following the update I experienced a very strange with WEBI (HTML). No matter what is being done with any WEBI report, creating, editing, viewing or whatever, after a very short period of inactivity the next mouse click after the inactivity will yield com.businessobjects.sdk.core.server.CommunicationException$UnexpectedServerException: FatalException occured. The cause was : com.businessobjects.corba.generic.container.proxy.internal.DependencyFailoverCallbackImpl$FailoverFatalException: Prepare failover failed. See attached screen shot.

As I mentioned this occurs with a any thing related to WEBI operations. The short period of inactivity that I mentioned seems to be right around a minute give or take a few seconds. As long as you are interacting with WEBI no problems. I have worked for over an hour with no problems, take a two minute phone call and its all over. I have many users with read only rights and they experience the same issues after a short time with no activity. This is not a session time out as there is no warning that session is about to end or no other friendly warnings. This issue was not present prior to updating to SP2FP3. I don't know very much at all about tomcat7 but I did find the error described above in my tomcat stderr.log. I have tested many reports on the desktop (thick client) and everything works fine there. I can leave a report open for hours with no problems. This poor behavior is limited strictly to WEBI (HTML). All other platform features are fine including the launch pad its self which will session time out normally. My tomcat settings did not change post upgrade and we are and have been using these configs for over a year. These config options were loaded by a vendor who put our system together:

-Djava.library.path=C:\Windows\SysWOW64\;C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\win64_x64\

-Dcatalina.base=C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\tomcat\

-Dcatalina.home=C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\tomcat\

-Djava.endorsed.dirs=C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\tomcat\common\endorsed\

-Dbobj.enterprise.home=C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\

-Xrs

-XX:MaxPermSize=512M

-Dbusinessobjects.olap.bin=

-Dbusinessobjects.olap.stylesheets=

-Djava.awt.headless=true

-XX:+HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError

-Xloggc:C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\tomcat\logs\tomcat.gc.log

-XX:+PrintGCDetails

-XX:+UseParallelOldGC

Initial Memory Pool BLANK MB

Maximum Memory Pool 2048 MB

Thread stack size 1024 KB

Is there something that could have changed in my WEBI processing servers in the upgrade process? Again nothing on the rest of the platform exhibits this ill behavior. I only mentioned tomcat because that is the only place that where the error thrown by WEBI shows up in a log.

Thank you for any advice anyone may have

SAP Business Objects 4.1 - American Date Format Issue

$
0
0

This issue is something that keeps arising, if your viewing a crystal report, or building a new Webi report in 4.1 and viewing it, the date format seems to come out as M/D/YYYY HH:MM:SS, this never happened in 4.0.

I will give an example, today I updated a 4.0 to 4.1 using the update path in a development server, and updated to 4.1 SP03 which is the latest. When I decided to write a Web Intelligence Report or create a Crystal report and publish this, all the date formats came out in American date format, and not the standard English one DD/MM/YYYY HH:MM:SS anymore. However if I go to the Live server which I haven't yet updated and is still on 4.0 SP04 Patch 11 and perform exactly the same its in English format as it always was.

Can someone please enlighten me to what has changed from 4.0 to 4.1 in terms of configuration regarding the date formats changing.

My server regional settings are English, and using the default GMT date time, so is my machine. 4.0 works 4.1 doesn't work the same.

I have tried changing the .prm files in the connectionserver\dataaccess folder as well, this doesn't seem to make a difference and also used LOV's in universe objects and when using these in prompts you get ameican format. I have also changed the preferences in the BI Launch Pad to view English locale and the GMT date time for Greenwich Mean Time.

Please can someone advise or suggest where I am going wrong here and how to solve this.

Many Thanks

Hi,

The BOXI3.1 SP7 feels faster.  Logged in and ran a report in Deski without any slowness.

- Is there a documentation on the performance improvement on BOXI3.1 SP7?

- I cannot find the SP7 what's new on http://help.sap.com/boe31sp7 nor Supported Platforms Guide, where are they?

Thank you in advance,

Hi!

I have installed IDT and everything is working fine so far.

Now I have a multi-source enabled Connection (JCo) via Data Federator connected to a SAP BW.

Anything I want to do with this connections takes ages. Testing it, building a DF oder a Universe on top of it. From 5 to 15 minutes, everything is possible, no need to mention, idt states not responding in the mean time.

How can I fix this?

Cross Platform Migration (BI XI 31-Win to BI 4.1 - Linux)

Hi

I would like to know

  1. Will the Update Manager Tool of BI 4.1 running on Linux 64 bit environment migrate the Universes, Users, Groups and other related information from BI XI 3.1 running on Windows (32 bit)?
  2. Will the Report Conversion Tool running on Linux 64 bit environment conversion the Desktop Intelligence reports of BI XI 3.1 running on Windows (32 bit) environment?

If yes, what are the precautions / check list I need to consider before / after the migration

Issue with language specific characters combined with AD-Logon to BO platform and client tools

$

We are using SSO via Win AD to logon to BO-Launchpad. Generally this is working which means for Launch Pad no manual log on is needed. But  this is not working for users which have language specific letters in their AD name (e.g. öäüéèê...).

What we have tried up to now:

  • If the AD-User name is Test-BÖ the log on is working with the user name Test-BO with logon type AD
  • If the logon Type "SAP" is used than it is possible to use the name Test-BÖ as the username
  • Generally it is no problem in AD to use language specific letters (which means it is possible to e.g. log on to Windows with the user Test-BÖ)
  • It is possible to read out the AD attributes from BO side and add them to the user. Which means in the user attributes the AD name Test-BÖ is shown via automatic import from AD. So it's not the problem that the character does not reach BO.
  • I have opened a ticket concerning that. SAP 1th level support is telling me that this is not a BO problem. They say it is a problem of Tomcat. I don't believe that because the log on with authentification type SAP is working.
  • I have set up the same combination (AD User Test-BÖ with SAP User Test-BÖ) as a single sign on authentification in SAP BW and there it is working without problems.

Which leads me to the conlusion: It is not a problem of AD. It is something which is connected to the BO platform but only combined with logon type AD because SAP Logon is working with language specific characters.

BI Launchpad - Missing Tabs (Home/Documents/Preferences) - IE 10

Hello,

The BI Launchpad is embedded as a tab in our SAP portal. When I open the BI Launchpad via the portal I briefly can see the top bar containing the Home/Documents tabs, Preferences link etc, then about 1/2 a second later it disappears completely dropping me into the Documents tab, albeit missing the tabs bar on the top of the screen.  When I open the BI Launchpad via the direct link I have no problem seeing the Home/Documents tabs, preferences etc. I am on IE 10, Windows 7 SP1, and BI 4.1 SP02 (Version: 14.1.2.1121). According to the PAM documents for 4.1 this shouldn't be a problem as it is supported.  I tested this with the latest version of firefox and it does not have the same problem, so that rules out security.

Anyone have an idea as to why this might be happening?

Thanks for looking,

Gary

Hi All,

I have a requirement to monitor the BO reports usage by users in BO 4.0

I have checked the Monitoring and Auditing in CMC but could not find anything out of the box which helps me understand the report usage statistics by users.

In BW, we have standard Technical content which provides detailed report usage statistics but trying to understand if we have something similar in BO 4.0.

For example - How many times and when a BO report was executed by users?

Greetings,

We are in continuous development phase, and often create CR reports on top of secure connections which are created from IDT and published to repo.

Since couple of days this functionality stopped working and started giving an error as below screenshot:

CR4E.PNG

same CR4E can be used to connect other systems on same patch level within the same network just fine.

So it came down to connectionserver running on this environment.

Following are the error message found from crj trace and connectionserver trace:

Hi everyone

i'm facing this problem:

on Information design tool I created a multisource data foundation based on ibm db2 connection and database 10.5 luw

When I click on show values for a "decimal" column i get this error.

EasyCapture1.jpg

If I create on the same connection a single source universe it works perfectly.

my BO versione is 4.1 sp2 patch 3.

every hint will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance and regards,

Adriano
