Design Studio vs Dashboard on BI 4.1 SP6

Hi,

 

We are on BI 4.1 SP6 with Win2008 R2.

 

We want to choose a Design Studio but I am not finding a clear direction if the Design Studio has all the features of Dashboard. I have read multiple posts and it is suggested that it will be merged and new tool will be design studio.

As suggested in the above screen, can someone explain what is the current status of the merger. I just want to make sue that if we choose design studio then it should have a feature of Dashboard as well. That way we do not have to switch the tool in near future.

 

Please advice.

SSO-Error with STS and Design Studio

Hello community,

 

we are currently struggling with Setting up SSO on BI 4.1 SP6 P2.

Our landscape is a Standard BW/BO-Setup with a seperated Tomcat-WebTier.

 

We have configured STS according to those guides:

SSO is working with IDT, WebI and Crystal Reports 4 Enterprise, but not with Design Studio. I can see one error in the Service, that contains STS:

When opening a Connection in DS, I get the error "Incomplete Logon Data. Check SSO-Configuration."

 

Could anyone Point me into the right direction? I already double-checked all the steps from the documents above.

Is there a Chance the keystore was not generated correctly (checking the error message above)?

 

Any hint would be helpful.

Java sdk sample to pull list of recurring scheduled instances in BO 4.0 with prompt,destination and To/Cc Email Address?

I used to have VBA macro to pull these information in XI R2, but seems like it's not compatible with 4.x.

Is there a Java sdk sample to pull list of recurring scheduled instances in BO 4.0 with prompt,destination and To/Cc Email Address?

MySQL ODBC configuration

I am new to Crystal and need some help getting a basic report available on Crystal Server.

 

I've create a report with Crystal Reports connecting to a remote MySql db. I want to move that report to Crystal Server running on redhat 7.  I understand that I need to create a ODBC DSN. Where is this documented? The server install guide mentioned DataDirect connection. Is this just an ODBC connection? Can anyone point me to some documentation that specifically deals with MySQL on redhat?

 

The Install guide points me to modify

 

<INSTALLDIR>/sap_bobj/enterprise_xi40/odbc.ini

 

and a sample file - odbc_dd_7_1_5_sample.ini

 

I do not see anything related to MySQL. The samples seem far more complex that the typical ODBC dsn. Once I create the dsn, what are the next steps? All of the docs that I am reading just give a few lines with not a lot of details.

Moving Crystal Reports Server from Windows to a Linux box

We are running Crystal Reports Server 2011 on a Windows machine. We would like to upgrade to the latest version of Crystal Reports Server (either 2013 or 2016). The problem is we would also like the new version to be running on Linux.

 

Is there a direct upgrade path for this? Or would we first have to upgrade 2011 to a windows version of 2013, and then move it to a Linux box. If that's the case, what is the protocol for moving boxes?

APS services not utilizing full memory

Hi  Team,


In one of the environment environment, we have allocated Maximum Memory AllocationPool -Xmx10g for  APS- DSL services and -Xmx2g for APS data access services . When we check the metrics value in the respective BOE services,it displays that 491.MB only. But the metrics vaues are matching for all other BOE services in the same node. We are having this issue with only one node in the cluster. We have also tried to recreate the affected services and cloned from the working one however there is no change in the memory and it is still shows 491 MB

 

could you please kindly suggest the possible causes for this issue

BI 4.1 Architecture template

               Hello BOBJ gurus

 

             As it happens that more often than not there is no factual information on users like how may Information Consumer, Business Users, Expert Users.  If I was to    build a sizing template based on the 4.1 admin guide guidelines without the SAP sizing calculator for a scenario having normal distribution of various                   report types (Webi, Crystal, Analysis, Dashboard) and sizes, does the following architecture a good recommendation for any organization having below               mentioned user population.  Will you put your seal of approval on it?  If not, what changes  would you recommend?

          Scenario A

Total Concurrent Users – 3000-5000    

Active Concurrent Users – 300-500

Concurrent Requests – 100-150

Application Tier – Windows 2008 R2 – Single Core – 8 GB RAM

Intelligence Tier – Windows 2008 R2 – Dual Core  - 8-16 GB RAM – Single CMS Service

Processing Tier – Windows 2008 R2 – Dual Core – 8-16 GB RAM – Single Processing servers

           Scenario B

Total Concurrent Users – 5000+    

Active Concurrent Users – 500

Concurrent Requests –  200

Application Tier – Windows 2008 R2 – Single Core – 8 GB RAM

2 Intelligence Tier  Boxes – Windows 2008 R2 – Quad Core  - 16 GB RAM each

2 Processing Tier Boxes – Windows 2008 R2 – Dual Core – 16 GB RAM each

Live Office encountered an error. (LO 26000)

Hi,

We have some Live office(LO) report that getting data from WebI report.

Now we cannot refresh LO report, after several minutes of refreshing we getting error:

 

Live Office encountered an error. (LO 26000) (LO 26000)

but WEBI report works fine.

We enable full LO trace on the client machine, and there logs:

Also we reduce LO timeout on the client machine(via regedit), but it didn't help.

Can you help me please?

Questions on configuring session parameters

Hi all,

 

we are running DS applications on the BI Platform 4.1 which is connected to a SAP BW system (7.31). The users access the reports from a SAP Portal by means of the special BO iViews which open OpenDocument-URLs.

 

We are wondering, how many users can concurrently execute reports and which parameters on the BI platform are relevant for that. We have observerd the session count metric in the APS. Once a user opens a report from the navigation menu in the SAP Portal, a new browser tab is opened. The same time, the session count metric is increased by 1. If the same user opens another report, which opens another browser tab, the session count metric is not increased. So I assume, there is one APS session per user - is that correct?

 

My next question is, for how long such a session remains "open"? From our observations, it seems, that the APS session remains "open" for the user as long as he sees the report and until some timeout (seems to be 20 minutes) is reached. We assume, that the APS session is "occupied" during that time - even if the user is not doing any navigation steps in the report (that is, he is just looking at it).

 

Let's assume, we have configured a maximum of 20 for the APS maximum session parameter and we have just one APS instance. What would happen, if 21 users all open just one report all at the same time? Would the 21st user be "blocked", if he tries to open a report and what would he see in the browser tab? We had situations, where some users complained about "white browser" windows when they tried to open a report.

 

Any support that sheds some light on this topic is highly appreciated!

BO 4.2 / Tomcat8 Cache Size

Hey SCN-Community,

 

i was wondering why the deployment of the WebApps is very slow within the new 4.2 release. Just checked the Tomcat log and saw many of the following Errors:

 

WARNING: Unable to add the resource at [/WEB-INF/eclipse/plugins/webpath.zenwebclient/web/zen.res/zen.rt.components.recorder/resources/rt/sap/zen/messagebundle-preload_vi.js] to the cache because there was insufficient free space available after evicting expired cache entries - consider increasing the maximum size of the Cache

 

Any idea on this? Maybe this is the reason why it deploys so slow (30 Min. for a fresh Installation).

Using BI java sdk to get webi reports data

Hello,

 

I'm learning to use BI Java SDK to get the data of Webi-reports, such as file properties/location, as well as edit report somehow....

 

I've noticed that lots of com.businessobjects.rebean.wi have been deprecated, such as ReportDictionary.   Some people suggested to use Restful web service, which I'm not familiar.  So I wonder if there are any other solution within Java SDK that can help me realize my goal.  Thanks very much!

BI 4.1 Webi Process Service

Hi

 

If you create multiple services on the same or different machines in the cluster,

how does cms determines the order in which to use duplicate services?

I understand in the case of multiple FRSs, the first one would be active and only time

duplicate FRS will be used when the first one becomes inactive.

By default user unable to see his Inbox when I create User

I am on 4.1 SP4. If I create a user, by default user unable to see his Inbox, I have to set up manually for each user. I know if it its Active Directory you don't have this issue. Since I am using Enterprise authentication, wanted to check Is it rectified yet?

Webi is returning wrong date

Upgrading BOBj BI 4.0 SP10 to SP12

Hello,

 

My company is currently running 4.0 SP10 (14.0.10.1493)

And we'd like to upgrade to 4.0 SP12, do I install the download from "Installations and Upgrades"? Or is this considered "Support Packages and Patches"?

Restrict users from uploading executable files in LaunchPad

I am trying to restrict users from uploading executable files using New -> Local Document Options. I have achieved this by denying "add objects to folder" for content type "agnostic" in our QA environment but it's not working in prod for some reason. It looks like something is overriding that setting in prod.

Here is what I did in QA to block executable files

CMC --> Personal Folders--> Manage --> Top Level Security --> All Personal Folders --> Everyone (group) -->Assign Security -->Advanced-->Add/Remove Rights-->Content ->agnostic --> Checked Deny add objects to the folders that user owns and Deny add objects to the folder

 

Any help would be appreciated.

MD5 Encryption In BO

Hi Experts,

 

We are currently looking for a Functionality where in we can mask some sensitive data through MD 5 Encryption at database\ BO level.

Query is can we run something from BO to encrypt the data on the database.

 

If lets say we have a  possibility of  running and Encrypting\Masking the  data through MD 5 from B) \ Data base.

Do we have a Functionality of decryption or reading the MD5 masked data from Business Objects   ??

 

Database Can be Teradata or oracle

 

Let me know your views on this

How to check Server Status

Hi All,

 

 

How to check performance of the server at particular time

we have 20 reports scheduled  at same time for a particular server

apart from that is there any way that we can check for a particular server or server group how many schedules at particular time

Like server 1 has 20 schedules at 6 AM

        server 1 has 30 schedules at 7 AM  to 8 AM

 

Please Advise

need to understand pros and cons of measures in Universe vs. Reports

I modified a WebI report that had two measures selected from the Universe:

- count(COURSES_ID)

- sum(COURSES_CRED_HRS)

 

As a result, there were two queries created, but the only difference was one had the COUNT and one had the SUM. this seemed to me to be overly complicated and added an extra layer of effort. Everything else in the query was the same.

So I ended up removing the measures from the report, then just did the calculation in the report, and so I ended up with a cleaner report, imo, with these

Count([Course Nbr])

Sum([Cred Hrs])

 

So was just wondering what are the considerations for each. We don't have much data so the number of rows returned isn't a consideration.

 

But I am nine months into this and trying to understand the pros and cons, how WebI thinks, etc.
