Clone BusinessObjects environment (from DB2 to MS SQL)

Hi all gurus.

 

do you think it's possible and easy to clone a businessobjects environment (universes, reports and connections) from one installation to another one?

 

i have a BO environment in which i created universes based on DB2 tables and webi reports.

 

i'd like to :

- copy the DB2 tables into a MS SQL database

- clone this environment (making an export of all bo objects and an import into a new BO installation).

do you think this is possible?

do you think i have to manually recreate all the joins of the universes after having create a new connection (from db2 to sql).

Unable to Launch Webi

Greetings,

 

I am attempting to Launch Webi via BI Launchpad (BI Platform 4.1 Support Pack 4).

From the Home screen I attempt to launch Webi, but I get the following unknown file type message:

 

“Do you want to save this file or find a Program to open it? ZHVtbXIOYW1I.zabo_wi”


I am running Windows 7 and have tried both IE and Chrome. I am the only one on my team having this problem. I am not sure what needs to be added to my workstation to make Webi work for me. Any suggestions (vs. just having my workstation re-imaged)?

Email Alerts for change in BI 4.1CMC services

Hello Everyone,

 

I would like to find out how to set up email notification for change in services in CMC. We have been facing issues lately. Whenever SIA restarts, all the services start up automatically, but a few of them go into "Stop" state after some time and we have to manually start them. The option for "automatically start service when SIA restarts" is enabled in properties of all the services. To avoid logging into CMC to check to see if all the services are up and running, I would like to find out, if there's a way to get an email alerts whenever a service stops or restarts. This will help us not logging into CMC more frequently and will also help us in avoiding failures in reports due to stoppped services.

 

I have seen a few blogs that talk about Monitoring and even some from XIR2 and XI3.x, but none seemed helpful. I would appreciate any feedback on this.

SAP BOXI 3.1 BW reports migration

Hi

 

I have migrated SAP BW reports,universe , connections  from BOXI 3.1 SP7 to BI 4.1 SP4 after the migration none of the reports and connections are working and it failed with below error message

 

dbd: Unable to connect to SAP BW server 00024rabax during sapgui logon€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€

 

Followed these below steps

 

1) Updated sapcrypto.dll file on server and client machine

2) updated librfc.dll

3) installed SAP gui on the client and tested

4) created OLAP connection and tested with SSO it works fine

 

anyone faced similar issue?

Full BOE on HANA?

Hi guys,

 

We're thinking about doing a full BOE 4.1 install on a HANA box, not just the audit and CMS. This should be do-able as HANA uses Linux as operating system.

 

Any thoughts or learnings on this?

Custom Reports / BW Implementation

Dear Experts,

 

 

I was asked by my boss to prepare few custom reports (eg: COGS, Allocate cost, PA..etc..) to show the management before the SAP BW Implementation. Since am new i am not sure How to go about it and also please break down the BW implementation process for me. ( I have read most of the BW Implementation docs from different forums (ASAP..) please provide details that even not so smart person can understand. Having theoretical knowledge alone does not help so please provide screen shots as well, if you have.

Install Error message upgrading to SP6

Hi,

 

 

We are currently upgrading our SAP BI 4.0 Platform (SP4 Patch 8) to SP6. In our test environment installation ends with a dialog box saying "SAP BI 4.0 SP6 has encountered an error during the install process".

 

I have reviewed the content of the setupengine.log file placed at ..\InstallData\logs. The only lines containing the error word are showed below:

 

(1)  19:03:30.184 Error:GetSeedElementList(): unrecognized element under element 'install': diskCostInfo

 

(2) 19:07:36.020 Error: Attempting to read invalid argument: EnableBackButton

 

(3) 19:30:51.317 2013/07/01, 07:30:51: Attempting to stop Service BOEXI40SIABIENT1, current status is 4, existing error code: 0

 

(4) 19:58:08.662 Error: Icon doesn't exist: D:\BO\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\wdeploy\wdeploy.ico

 

  (5) 20:12:40.947 Unable to find servers in CMS ES-W08-BIENT1:6400 and cluster  with kind cms and service null. All such servers could be down or disabled by the Administrator.(FWM 01014) ERROR: Could not log into CMS "ES-W08-BIENT1:6400" with the provided credentials. Help: Verify the values for -cms,
-username and -password, and verify the CMS is running.

 

  20:39:18.173 Error: Extra argfound: ShowInstallCompleteBackButton

 

I have checked that  some of these message errors already appeared in other log installations where process finished without the mentioned dialog box message (E.g: 1,2,3,4). I suspect that BO install end dialog arises from message 5 (Service was not temporarily available because it was may be taken too much time to start).

 

Currently system seems to work fine but the final BO install dialog message does not let me too quiet. We have repetead the install process in another environment (PRE) with exactly the same result. Do you think that the install process can be considered fine in this case?

NoSSO URL for CMC in BI 4.1 SP6 ?

Hi,

 

as we know, from BI 4.1 SP6, SSO can be used for CMC. Especially for administrators who need to login to CMC several times a day, this is a very nice feature. Thanks you, SAP !

 

Last weekend we upgraded to SP6 on our Production-environment.

 

Now I was wondering whether an URL can be used, as for Infoview and Explorer, to bypass the SSO.

 

But neither http://<YourServer>/BOE/CMC/logonNoSSO.jsp (the one for Infoview), nor http://<YourServer>/noSSO.jsp (the one mentioned in a SAP-Note for Explorer) is working.

 

Does somebody know if there is an URL to be used for No-SSO for CMC as well ?

User deleted report

HI I had short cut reports for users based off one folder.

User has deleted by mistake the reports of this folder. Now all shortcuts of this also gone.

 

Is deleted such reports held maybe in some trash folder by any chance?

 

We dont have much of backup at this time.

Reports are in Pending State

Hello All,

I have done migration from BO 3.1 SP2 to BO 4.1 SP3 now

Our recurring jobs are triggering as scheduled but Reports which i try to run on demand are always in "Pending" state

not getting any error or any issue but dont know why on-demand schedules are not working

Also when we try to run report now,it takes (current time -1 hour) which is weired as it should take current time

Access report via path instead of report ID

I am moving from an old Crystal Server 8 to Crystal Server 2013.  I have the system setup and the reports are imported.

 

If I use a URL like this the reports run fine:

 

http://server:8080/BOE/CMC/1509111601/CrystalReports/viewrpt.cwr?apsuser=uname&apspassowrd=password=&id=3858


However I have 30,000 reports in my old system and my application refers to them in this manner:


http://server/Reports/customername/application/year/month/day/reportname.rpt


The application is not aware of the report id number.


How do I make this work in the new system?


I have just the bare bones Crystal Reports deployment. Single server, Server 2012. Here is a picture of the servers I have running.

Using the packaged Tomcat7 I can "publish" the f:\Reports folder and that makes the path above accurate, however it just attempts to download the report not render it. 


What am I missing?  Do I need IIS or Apache on the front end to make this happen?

Scheduled Crystal Reports failing

I am using BO 4.1 on windows.  We just upgraded our test system from SP5 to SP6 and the scheduled crystal reports began failing after the upgrade.  The failed instance is giving an error that says: "Database Connector Error: 'RFC_INVALID_HANDLE'"

In the server log I can see an error that says:"

assert failure: (.\rasprocUtil.cpp:718). (false : ExtractLogons(): could not extract SI_LOGON_MODE from si_logonsBag property bag). "

 

This same schedule worked fine in SP 5 but it is failing in SP 6.

Has anyone seen this error before and if so, how do I fix it?

 

I am going against an SAP BW backend for the data.

On-Demand Subreport Requires Database Logon

Hi,

 

I have read all the posts regarding this topic on the forums and have tried the solutions, to no avail.

 

I have a report with a subreport.  Both are pointing to the same Oracle server temp_table and stored procedure.

 

As of last week, this report ran fine in BI Launchpad and Central Management Console.

 

Now, when the report is run with the Database Configuration setup to "Use same database logon as when report is run", even though the main report and subreport point to the same table, the subreport is empty.

 

When I change the option of "When viewing and scheduling report" to "Prompt the user for database logon (viewing only)", I am able to go through the process of running the report, logging on for the subreport and getting data in both main and subreport.

 

Again, I have set and reset the database location and verified it.  The only change I've made to the report in the last week is adding a "no data found" message that looks for a field to be null, then display the message.

 

I am using SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 4.1 Support Pack 5 Patch 2 (Version 14.1.5.1568).

 

I am using Crystal Reports 2013 Support Pack 5 Path 2 (Version 14.1.5.1568).

 

What am I missing?

Questions about licenses

Hi.

First of all, I speak Spanish, so try to understand me, please.

 

For the start of a project implementation, I am analyzing the client licenses and emerged a doubt that they SAP Channel Partner could not clarify further, and would need to know in order to limit the use of the SAP Business Objects Suite.

 

In March 2011, they acquired BOBJ licenses. The Licensed Software is the “SAP Business Objects BI Package”. Metrics license says "CPU" and level says "2".

 

They understood, that gave them the ability to have unlimited users.

 

Currently the partner told them that now, the Suite is licensed by users type (Analyst or Viewer). But contractually, the license remains the last one.

 

I found a note (1285639 - What license types are available for Business Objects Enterprise?), that says:

 

“Resolution 

3 user license types are available with BusinessObjects Enterprise / Crystal Reports Server:

 

Named User license: 

  • Typically associated with specific user names
  • Allow 'physical users', that are named to access the system based, typically each 'physical users' will have their user name and password
  • One named user license is occupied for each physical user accessing the BI Platform, typically this is one user account per 'physical' user.

     

Concurrent license: 

  • Specify the number of sessions that can connect to BusinessObjects Enterprise at the same time.
  • Each physical user can consume more than one session, for example the same user could use both the browser on a PC and a mobile Application on a mobile device. This would create 2 sessions for the same physical user.
  • Flexible since a small concurrent license can support a large user base.

     

CPU license: 

  • Indicates number of CPU cores that can be run, or potentially run, the BusinessObjects Enterprise server
  • There is no license limit to the number of 'physical' users that can access the BusinessObjects Enterprise server”

 

Actually, they have BOBJ 4.1 SP2 installed.

 

The partner insists that they have to have licenses by user (Analyst / Viewer)

 

The questions we have are:

 

  • Is it true that if they had licenses for CPU, are now required to use the "per user"?
  • How can you determine the number of Viewer / Analyst users, if I can set up such a classification?
  • When the SAP Channel informs them that the difference between Viewer and Analyst is the ability to update ... “to update” we must understand “the refresh against the database" or "modify and add new dimensions to the report."

Customers would like to see the query result as a raw extraction without changing table formats

The best would be to have a server option for a subgroup that could customize generical formats...
