Kill Idle / Old sessions in BOBJ 4.1 SP2 without Restart - BOBJ on SAP JAVA

Hi Everybody,

 

We see tons of resources for BOBJ on Tomcat and ironically very few (if not rare) to the point, direct reference to  BOBJ on SAP JAVA !! I wonder how

long it will take before Sr. SAP Persons in Waldorf will release Notes / KBAs which is cent percent relevant for SAP's own SAP JAVA + BOBJ 4.1 combination !?!

 

We have typical issue of  ' Idle/Old sessions not being released ' and being Production, we were hoping to see at least 1 or 2 notes which talks about killing sessions in BOBJ 4.1 on SAP JAVA and (NOT on BOBJ 4.0 / 4.1 on Tomcat) without server restart   ..when we found

 

#1803138 : how to kill session in BOBJ without restart and

  guess what? to our most annoying surprize --- on standard service.sap.com/notes : Document is not  released ??!!

 

We know not all " BOBJ on Tomcat " notes are applicable in cent percent manner to " BOBJ on SAP " and SAP is deafeningly silent on this !!

 

#1886165 - How to terminate user session manually in XI 3.1 and BI 4.0?

   this note available ( and again it talks only about Tomcat !! ) but, it says SAP Do not support this method and CMS DB Back up is suggested

              -- what is the use of this note in PROD Env ???

 

#1668750 - Sessions not being released in SAP Business Intelligence Platform 4.0 - Requires restart of server !!

Does anyone have / tried successfully work around to kill old / idle user sessions in " BOBJ on SAP JAVA " environment  And / Or

 

Anyone knows any other note / KBA which actually talks about " BOBJ on SAP JAVA " for killing session without restart and actaully available on SMP ?

BOXI3.1 SP7 Improvements?

The BOXI3.1 SP7 feels faster.  Logged in and ran a report in Deski without any slowness.

- Is there a documentation on the performance improvement on BOXI3.1 SP7?

- I cannot find the SP7 what's new on http://help.sap.com/boe31sp7 nor Supported Platforms Guide, where are they?

Blob/Clob size limitation in 4.1 IDT

I have a database field in 3.1 Universe Designer that is a Long Text data type and parses and displays as expected in the Webi report.

 

In 4.1 IDT this same field is read as a Blob data type, and does not parse and is not available in Webi. I referred to SAP DOC-42781 that covers Blob/Clob and changed the SQL to "Dbms_lob.substr(Table.CLOB_Column , number of characters, start position)". However, there seems to be a character limit when using this SQL. I initially set my  number of characters at 14,000 (my largest record thus far is 13,268), but this produced a IDT query error "ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small ORA-06512: at line 1". Again following SAP DOC-42781, I kept reducing the number of characters in the SQL until the error disappeared. Ultimately I determined that it caps out at 4,000 characters. This SQL works for most of my records, but a few are larger than this and as previously mentioned the largest right now is over 13,000. Thus some records are truncated and all text is not displayed as it should be. Given the Dynamic nature of the field, this SQL does not work on surface if there is such a small maximum character limit.

 

I've tried a couple of workarounds, but the only way I can get the field to display correctly at the report level is to create several similar objects, each extracting 4,000 characters of the string. So in my case I have 4 objects allowing for a character length of 16,000. These objects can't be combined/concatenated at the IDT level because I get an error message "ORA-01489: result of string concatenation is too long". Thus all 4 objects have to be included in any query, and I then have to create a Webi report variable to concatenate the 4 objects.

 

This obviously is not a practical or efficient solution. Also given the Dynamic field lengths, it is not a full proof solution either.

 

As previously mentioned, this was not an issue in 3.1, but is an issue in 4.0/4.1 and SAP DOC-42781 does not fully cover the size limitations.

 

Is there any viable solution for this within IDT?

hello all,

 

To access to BusinessObjects, we do

Using IE

- from inside of the network : http:\\ServerBO.Doamin qui reste http:\\ServeurBO.Doamin

- from external of the network : http:\\ServerBO.Doamin qui passe alors en https:\\ServerBO.Doamin

 

With Ipad application (SAPBI et SBO-Explorer):

- Connect Inside  Network: : http:\\ServerBO.Doamin qui reste http:\\ServerBO.Doamin

- Connect Outside Network : https:\\ServerBO.Doamin qui reste en https:\\ServerBO.Doamin

 

From outside, the http translation to https seems to do not correctly work for Ipad Applications

 

What can be the soluition to access in https mode, or to make working the http translation ?

 

Note: we are on SAP BI 4.1 SP2 Patch 4

Hola,

 

Cada vez que inicio el CMS me da el siguiente error:

When we uncomment the environment variable BOE_USE_32BIT_ENV_FOR we get an error

"The viewer could not process an event. Internal Error. Please contact your system administrator. [RCIRAS0216]. Error Code 0 [CRWEB00000119]".

Can anyone let us know the reason for the same.

Import Wizard backup

Hi exports ,

 

iam using sap bo 3.1

 

I  Just taken back up from my PROD server through import wizard  ,back up size was 20GB and files where slip-ted  in to (1biar(512mb),2biar(512mb),3Biar(512mb))..........42biar(512mb)

 

Now i want to insert the back  to development severer

Query:  source is BIAR and destination sap 3.1 (Dev),, now all biar files will be taken automatically are ,i want to write any code

 

if code is required plz help me in step by step

SAP BI4.1 Customization

Hi Expert,

 

Currently, we are using XI3.1 SP6 DESK reports which would be upgrade to SAP BI 4.1 SP2.

Below listed are some questions need to clarity on.

  

  1. In BI 4.1, can we customize a webi report interface to add some clickable buttons
    (like DESKI .REA File)? If yes, are webi extension points the way to achieve this?
  2. If yes to the above question, Can extension points be used to tap into LIVE user’s
    session to capture data/filter information? For example, can we create a
    clickable button which exports user’s report data into a txt file?
  3. Is there some documentation available to know these extension point capabilities
    in detail?
  4. Is there a risk of losing SAP support if we customize webi interface this way?
  5. If extension points is not the way to achieve this, is there an alternative ? Is
    there a better way to achieve our functionality?

 

 

Please let us share the information on the above questions.

BI 4.1 - Kerberos+AD with SSO2DB Oracle

Hello fellow BOers!

 

We are at the moment trying to configure SSO2DB on our BI platform.

 

Here is the global configuration:

  • Server : Windows 2008 R2
  • SAP BI : 4.1 SP3
  • Oracle clients 32b and 64b : Version 11.2.0.1.0
  • SSO configured for Launchpad with Vintela, Kerberos, and AD

 

And here is the thing :

 

Let's say we have :

  • ReportSSO : a WebI report based on a universe using an Oracle connection configured for SSO
  • ReportClassic : a WebI report based on a universe using an Oracle connection with hardcoded username/password

 

1 - SSO to the platform (Vintela step) => Everything is OK

  • SSO through the launchpad is working fine, the AD credentials of the user's session are used to connect to launchpad.
  • SSO for WebI Rich Client is also working fine.

 

2 - Refreshing reports (SSO2DB) :

  • Both reports refresh on WebI Rich Client after connecting in SSO mode => OK
  • In Launchpad, users can refresh ReportClassic (Report not using SSO2DB) => OK
  • In Launchpad, users cannot refresh ReportSSO (Report using SSO2DB) => KO
    • The error is the following, when refreshing a report :
    • Database error: (CS) "Error on Connect". (IES 10901) (Error: INF)

 

The error clearly shows there is something wrong with the ConnectionServers.

We tried to set the log level at the maximum for the CS, but nothing interesting here. The error is traced, but no information about the cause or any warning or error before).

 

 

Here are all the things we tried or checked:

  • sqlnet.ora and tnsnames.ora are shared between users' computers and the server, so Oracle client config is not involved
  • Kerberos tickets are forwardable
  • "Cache security context" is checked on the CMC
  • SSO is enabled in Oracle SBO files
  • The service account running the SIA is trusted for delegation in AD
  • The SPN seems to be working fine because it is working for the platform.

 

And one last "not-related to BO" thing:

  • I can open an SSO session to the database with sqlplus after creating a ticket with a my credentials from the BO server
  • Once my manual ticket is created between BO server and the DB, all users can refresh the report but they are connected to the DB with my user, which is not a good thing at all!

 

 

Does any of you have an idea of what could be going wrong?

Is there anybody using Active Directory 2003 with BOBJ 4.1? The PAM talks about support for 2008 and 2012. I just wanted to see if anybody has it running with 2003 and what the experience has been.

Images as Hyperlinks independant of Tomcat server

we are trying to use images as hyperlinks without deploying the images to Tomcat in Web Intelligence. What exactly I am looking for is to either write a code that allows me to do so or place the image folder outside of Tomcat.

Any idea or help will be appreciated.

Live Office 4.0 SP4 & Windows 7/Office 365 Compatability

So I recently upgraded my machine to Windows 7 and Office 365.  During the re-install of Live Office 4.0 SP4, I received two errors at the "Prerequisite Check".

 

Microsoft Office 2003 or Higher --Failed

Microsoft Office Patch --Failed

 

 

I have not been able to find any information in regards to if Live office 4.0 is compatible with Windows 7/office 365.   Anyone have any ideas/thoughts/options?

Webi schedule failure

I have a webi report against BW data using BICS connection which is scheduled to run every week. The schedule fails with the error" while trying to invoke the method com.sap.ip.bi.bics.dataaccess.provider.selector.IProviderInfoObject.getName() of an object loaded from field com.sap.ip.bi.bics.dataaccess.consumer.impl.selector.InfoObject.providerInfoObject of an object loaded from local variable 'this' " but completes successfully when scheduled with "run now" option.

 

The report itself takes 15-20 min to run.

 

I have tried changing the timeout parameters.

 

Has anyone else faced similar issue??

Upgrade Management Tool : how to change the default logon-credentials

Dear all,

 

How can we change the default values in the logon screen of the Upgrade Management Tool ?

 

By default, the hostname of the machine on which you run UMT is displayed in the "CMS Name" field of Source and Destination.

 

Can we change that default behaviour ?
