We are on BO XI 3.1 and moving to BI Suite, and trying to get a handle on things.

 

I found this helpful article about the Convergence of the SAP BusinessObjects BI Product Portfolio, but need a little clarification . . . since I am wading into all of this for the first time, and it's getting a little deep . . . .

 

So what is the difference between Dashboards and Design Studio. ? The above "Convergence" link says

we announced the statement of direction for SAP BusinessObjects Dashboards in which SAP BusinessObjects Design Studio is the go-forward solution.

 

So since we  are starting from scratch, should I just focus on Design Studio and ditch Dashboards ? I was all set for Dashboards, but really have no clue on what it is and what to do with it. But it sure looks fancy.

 

as a quick aside, we are also wrestling with Crystal Reports for Enterprise vs. Crystal Reports 2013, as far as what direction to take (we currently don't have Crystal). So that was an eye opener in regard to the various considerations, and choosing the right approach requires a bit of thought and planning.

I have som issues in system copying SBOP

 

I installed SBOP server and integration kit SP3 on a test server, then upgraded it to SP5 and then to SP7 patch 2, all this I did to get the MySQL installed like production. Alle Works fin, I can logon to CMC now.

 

Now test is similar to production.

 

I system copied from production to test via SIA. Close SIA -> Configuration -> Copy data from another data source. -> selected the production DB. Afterwards I can se lines in DB concerning production data, I also copied FileStore.

 

Do I have to change clustername after the copy?

 

After starting SIA again I can't log on to CMC?

 

I still see production names in the DB, how do I convert them?

 

What am I missing?

I am able to login manually with my AD Credentials but SSO does not work I keep getting the following error

 

 

Account Information Not Recognized: Active Directory Authentication failed to log you on. Please contact your system administrator to make sure you are a member of a valid mapped group and try again. If you are not a member of the default domain, enter your user name as UserName@DNS_DomainName, and then try again. (FWM 00006)

Dear Experts, need your guidance on my issue.

 

We have set our developers to do their promotions from DEV to QA. But while they promote the universes(.unx) from DEV to QA, they encounter an error 'Resolution Status=Overwritten, Dependency Status=Some of the required dependencies are not selected., Commit Status=Commit attempted and failed., Promotion Status=Failure : Security right violation encountered'

 

But they are able to promote the reports fine. I verfied that the user promoting the job has View, Edit, Delete and Add Objects to Folder rights granted.

 

Please advise which other rights might be missing.

Hello Experts,

 

We were on SAP BO 4.1 SP2 After upgrading on SP4. I am not able to Login through CMC "Account information not recognized: Could not reach CMS 'JKBODEV:6400'. Specify the correct host and port and check for network issues. (FWM 20030)". while checking into the event Viewer I found the error "Server Intelligence Agent has failed to initialize. The port number is likely in use. Please confirm that your Server Intelligence Agent port number is not in use by another program. com/rsa/jsafe/CryptoJ". SIA Server is showing started but error shows it is not working.

For this copied  jce.jar from another working BI platform 4.1 SP4 according to SAP NOTE 2033715 but still it's not working.

Let me know if you have solution to resolve this issue.

We are getting BI Suite in the near future, but the "near future" might be 6 months or more, and I need to write a Crystal Report NOW.

 

What do you think about downloading CR 2013 and writing a report, then converting it to Crystal Reports for Enterprise ? Both would be direct connection to Oracle. I'd have to purchase one copy of CR 2013. And then learn how to use it . . . .

 

Also, if this were feasible, I'd need a way to provide this to the user, is that possible with BO XI 3.1 ? All we use is Web Intelligence / InfoView, we don't use Crystal Reports.

Hi Gurus,

 

We recently upgraded to BI 4.1 from 3.1 system. When users are searching for some reports in launchpad they are not able to find some reports. I've tried the same thing as an admin and I've faced the same issue from launchpad but when I login as Administrator into CMC and look for the report, it works! Our platform search engine is set to 'Continuous crawling'.

 

It's only happening with few reports. Please help me with this issue! Thanks.!

Hello all,

We have installed BOBJ 4.1 SP2 and installed all the client tools of the same version.

 

Issue 1:

When I create an OLAP connection with the Information Design tool and try to publish the connection, there is no response after I click on the 'Finish' button in the Publish screen. Even 'Cancel' button does not give any response. I have to kill IDT from Task manager to come out and restart. I am seeing this on my laptop as well as on our servers where we installed IDT. But I can create a WEBI report on OLAP connection and it works fine. For some reason, publishing the connection fails. See attached Image 1

 

Issue 2:

The other weird issue with IDT is that when I open a session by connecting to one of our BOBJ platforms using SAP authentication, it creates the session and shows two menu items "Connections" and "Universes". But when I click on Connections or Universes to expand, they both disappear.

When I again double click on the session to see the Connections and Universes, it prompts me for the password again and then fails with different types of errors like "Unable to reconnect to CMS" or "Failed while trying to log on user" or "Failed to open a repository session on".

This is completely weird because I am able to create an OLAP connection, I am also able to create a new session, but when I try to view the Connections and Universes in that session, they just flicker and disappear. Seems very weird behavior. See attached Image 2

 

The user logging into IDT with SAP credentials is part of Administrators group. So no issue of authorizations there.

 

This is happening to all the environments (Sandbox, Dev, QA and Prod) in our Installation.

 

Attached are the Images for both the issues.

 

Any ideas/thoughts please :-)

Dear SAP BOBJ experts,

 

Does anyone have any documents, knowledge or experience with regards to SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI Release 2 and its support for data source connectivity to Oracle 12c databases?

 

We are in the process of planning an upgrade to BusinessObjects BI 4.1, since XI R2 is long out of support, but an existing application data source is closer to performing an upgrade of their database from Oracle 10g to Oracle 12c, bypassing Oracle 11g due to it going out of Oracle support in approx. Jan 2015, and we would like to assess the potential impact of their upgrade.

Can you confirm my below approach towards migration from BO 3.1 to 4.1?

 

 

While using Upgrade Management tool for Incremental Upgrade:

1) Migrate all the users, groups and security levels (Custom access levels) in the initial phase of the migration.

2) Migrate Folders(few folders only) in the next phase

3) Re apply the security on each folder in CMC 4.1.

 

Questions

 

 

1) Everyone Group has to be migrated from BO 3.1 or not?

2) Administrators Group has to be migrated from BO 3.1 or not?

3) Administrator User has to be migrated from BO 3.1 or not?

4) Shall I have to select: Applications CMC, (ii) Designer, (iii) Infoview (iv) Webi etc.?

What options to select:

Export selected objects and their dependencies

    (ii) Export selected objects

    (iii) Export objects only if they are depended on

 

 

5) While migrating Groups, which option to select:

Export this group, its subgroups, their users and their users dependencies.

(ii) Export this group, its subgroups and their users

iii) Export this group, its subgroups and their users only if they are depended on

 

 

6) While migrating Folders, which option to select:

Export selected objects and their dependencies

(ii) Export selected objects

(iii) Export objects only if they are depended on

Recently I was getting this irritating error, but after clicking "Run this time",  then everything works.

 

To clear this up, I installed the latest version of Java, 1.8.0_66 (32-bit) (but I have a 64-bit machine). Everything still works fine.

 

When I open Java panel, it only shows 1.8.0_66 in 32-bit folder, but I do have 64-bit Java also installed. Why doesn't it show 1.8.0_45 ?

 

 

I wouldn't have realized any of this version issue, but a user called who previously had the "Run this time" issue, and we directed the IT tech to make sure she has the matching version of Java (32-bit, 64-bit) for her machine. But now she's dead in the water, with this error:

 

When I first saw this error, I was like, "Oh, make sure she's got the matching version of Java", then I looked at my own machine and got a tiny bit confused . . .

Dear Team,

 

 

I Am trying to index the Platform Search Application. But it does not appear to complete a full index of our documents. It has been running since 3 days and has not completed yet. I don’t think it has made any progress since yesterday, though it says it is running:

 

 

I am concerned that this could be using system resources because it is still running even though it has not completed.  I believe we have over 40,000 documents. 

 

My doubt is this indexing will run always as per scheduling crawling? or will it show kind of Finished once it is completed?

 

Appreciate if can help me to identify the issue.

I am tasked with distilling our BO XI 3.1 permissions so management can digest it. I'm learning this myself, with the help of an experienced administrator.

 

So I'm thinking, "all this info is stored somewhere, like probably in a database . . . hmmm, surely, there's got to be a way to print this out."

 

So can this be done ? We have moderate size installation, but too big to try and transcribe what's there to an Excel spreadsheet which then would be (poorly) maintained separately.

We have a report written in CR 2013 using business views to control cascading prompts.  It works corrctly using the CR 2013 client and it works in a single node BI 4.1 sp5 environment.  However, when moved to a platform that is two nodes (also BI 4.1 sp5), which is clustered with a load balancer, it fails with a MochiKit erro number 12031 (Exact wording is: Uable to process your request   message: Request failed  number 12031   name MochiKit.Async.XMLHttpRequestError   description:   )

Getting timeout error "A timeout occurred. Failed to update the object within 300 seconds." while migrating crystal reports using UMT. Referred to Sap note 1701318 and selected no printer option but no luck.

 

Did anyone face this issue?

The issue we have come across it that we have found Crystal reports are running 50-100% slower on the server compared to running the same report on a Windows 7 workstation.  It is possible that this problem has existed for a long time. We put up a new 2012 R2 server the other day and we decided to see if performance was improved. We found the opposite of what we expected.

 

We have run the report from a terminal session and directly on the server console. We have run from both a physical and virtual server and got the same results.

 

Running the report on my workstation the status bar shows approximately 5,000 records read for every update. Running the report on the server shows approximately 2,000 records for every update.

 

On both my workstation and the server it shows the Crystal properties as:

     Database Type: ODBC (RDO)

     Server Name: Crystal

     Database: Data

     Use DSN Default Properties: True

 

We are running Crystal version 11.5.12.1838.  Same result with Crystal 14.0.4.738.

 

Any suggestions on where to start to determine the cause of this? Thanks.

Hi ,

I referenced a great post listed below for windows AD and SSO with Business objects 4.0

Active Directory SSO for SAP BusinessObjects BI4

i have completed this till step 8 , where i can see the authentication tab visible on BI launch pad but i am unable to log in as a AD user.

although the ticket at the end of step 7 has been successfully created but what i am not sure about is if i need to run the cmd prompt as a AD service account user or the admin user that i logged into the business objects vm server as?

Please let me know if that is irrelevant and if there is anything else that needs to be tested. I have followed all the other steps and have the service account AD user as part of the Admin group on the server and also act as part of operating system in the local security policy.
